How can I market my art?
Here are some basic marketing tips to get your art seen and sold:
1) Make sure your website is optimized for greater visibility; implement key words within your site, both hidden in the html design and showing on your web pages. A picture of a word is not a word that a search engine can find, it must be typed.
2) Buy space within an art hub website, and link it to your website.
3) Submit your website to search engines.
4) Offer to collaborate with non-profit organizations. Create a special piece of art specifically designed for a certain cause. You can offer to donate a portion of sales from prints of that particular image.
5)
Have postcards made of your art, and send them to interior designers.
6) Keep a couple of pieces for sale on ebay. It serves as an extra place to sell your art and you will get your name out there. Here's where using your name as the domain name is important; how would people know that DillyDallyArtShop is your website?
7) If you want to exhibit in a gallery you can search for art galleries online that carry the same sort of art that you create. Call the galleries and ask the director if you can send a few jpegs along with some information about you. If they are willing to look, send the the email immediately, within a half an hour. Send your bio in a pdf file. Your bio should be one or two pages. Send 6 jpegs and make sure they are low resolution (72 resolution is perfect) and small enough (600 pixels either way) to load fast. Send your contact information, a link to your website, and a polite brief note in the body of the email.
8)Participate in art events, and keep in touch with anyone who shows interest in your art. Make sure you do your follow ups within a week of the show.
9) Link to other artists websites who create art completely different from yours (they aren't in competition with you) make sure they are willing to link back to you as well. Links back and forth increase your chances of being found by a search engine.
