Should I have music playing on my website?

No. Plain and simple. Music should not be a part of a website unless you are a musician and you are trying to sell your music. Most people find it annoying, regardless of whether or not they are jazz fans, or classical music fans, or county music fans. If they are on your website they are surfing the web for art, not music. They may be listening to the news or their own music in the background, or they may be surfing quietly and don’t want to hear a sudden blast of sound. They will most likely hit the mute button as fast as possible or click away from your website all together. Keep your website elegant, fast, user friendly, and most of all – not annoying.
